Hibiya station/area

Subway station and area south-east of the Imperial Palace in Tokyo.

Mostly green parks and tall modern buildings nowadays, Hibiya was covered by the sea and a fishing village until the Tokugawa shogunate landfilled it (starting in 1592) to house daimyo feudal lords near Edo castle (currently Imperial Palace)!

Japan built its first Western-style hotel and electric traffic lights in Hibiya area.
