After the War: Fighters and Civilians

During this tour, visit the famous/infamous Yasukuni shrine, view relics of World War 2 and enter a museum revealing the Showa Era, a few years before the war and the following years (1935-1955). Expect to see army gear, a Zero fighter plane, Japanese newspapers, and old black & white photos. This travel through time is a great way to form your opinion about Imperial and occupied Japan… and about the life of Japanese grandparents!
Departure: Hotel Grand Palace in Tokyo from Tuesday to Friday in 2014 (September, October, November, December) and 2015 (January, February, March, April, May, June, July, August, September). Departure possible from another hotel in Chiyoda ward or from Kudanshita station.

Insight Into Art: Origami? Shinto?

Nice in any season with a blue sky, rain or snow, this walk was our most popular morning/evening walk in Japan from 2013 to April 2014: from France, Israel, Mexico, South Korea, the Philippines and the USA… everybody looked happy!
Feel the Japanese artistic sense through traditional and modern paper-based creations and through diverse religious designs… We will visit a dedicated centre and an exciting Shinto shrine where you may see many types of colourful “Washi” handmade paper, origami, Japanese paper dolls, Asian cut paper, statues of gods and horses, translucent and golden lanterns (wonderful when lit up at night)…
Departure: Hotel Niwa Tokyo in Tokyo from Monday to Friday in May and June 2014.

Feel love at the shrine site of the first Shinto wedding, discover a charming maze of small streets in Kagurazaka, and enter a beautiful modern shrine with intriguing lucky charms and a bright coffee shop! On the way back, we will introduce you to the shopping street and to products of Japan’s culture at shops for Japanese sweets, green tea, gorgeous kimono dresses, flower-shaped hairpins… This romantic walk is wonderful in Spring 🙂

We strongly recommend you this walk if you love the traditional and ancient “Made in Japan”, want shopping ideas, and wish to meet/interact with Japanese people during your holidays in Japan.
Explore Japanese life and culture by visiting shops in Jimbocho. Look, listen, touch and get answers to your questions about traditional and everyday life objects. You will typically discover Wagashi cakes, Washi paper, Mamebon books, Ukiyo-e woodblock prints, ancient maps, fun family card games…
Our English speaker knowing the area and Japanese culture will lead you from little shop to little shop, introducing you to the shopkeepers and to their products, and will translate your questions (English to Japanese) and the shopkeepers’ answers (Japanese to English). Feel free to buy sweets, souvenirs and gifts for your children and friends!
