In July, August and September 2015, the ink wash painting lessons with sumi-e master HONDA Toyokuni at Toyokuni Atelier Studio (gallery near Jimbocho station, Chiyoda ward, Tokyo) only take place between 13:00 and 17:00. Reserve at least two weeks before your selected day and bring 8.000 yens per person for a lesson of 90 minutes in English or Japanese.
The son HONDA Yuta still teaches sumi-e to foreign beginners without reservation 🙂 Come between 12:00 and 19:00 from Tuesday to Saturday or between 12:00 and 17:00 on Sunday with 1.000 yens per person for a lesson of 30 minutes in English or Japanese.
Enjoy a unique experience with a bilingual Japanese artist this summer and hone your artistic skills with a brush on washi paper while you visit or live in Japan!
Emperor Meiji founded the Yasukuni Shinto Shrine in 1869 to enshrine the soul of soldiers and ordinary citizens dead for Japan. It currently enshrines 2.466.000 souls including girls and women involved in relief operations on battlefields, students working in factories during wars… As you may know from international news, visits of Yasukuni Shrine by Japanese politicians are a major source of tension between Japan, China and South Korea!
Yasukuni Shrine is in the Chiyoda ward of Tokyo near Kudanshita subway station, Hotel Grand Palace, Tsukudo Shrine, and the Martial Arts Hall of Japan. In the second half of November, you can usually enjoy its beautiful alley of trees with autumn yellow leaves! Open for free from 06:00, it may close at 17:00, 18:00 or 19:00…
- January, February: 06:00-17:00.
- March, April: 06:00-18:00.
- May, June, July, August: 06:00-19:00.
- September, October: 06:00-18:00.
- November, December: 06:00-17:00.

Nice! Tokyo’s Sumida ward, its tourism office and the Sumidagawa Edo Cultural Sightseeing Promotion Association organize a “Yukata De Guide Tour” special event in English for foreign tourists near Ryogoku station from 16:00 to 21:00 on Saturday 02 August 2014.
Imagine wearing a colourful Yukata summer kimono with traditional Geta wooden shoes, visiting the Kokugikan sumo arena, joining a tea ceremony in a Japanese garden, smelling and tasting Japan’s green tea from your cup, attending a concert of Koto (stringed musical instrument) and Shakuhachi flute, living a Haiku Japanese poetry gathering…
Then cruise the Sumida River at night to admire the lit-up Rainbow Bridge (Odaiba area) and modern Tokyo Skytree tower from a cute boat…
Finally, enjoy a festival with many small shops and Japanese people dancing a Bon-odori dance… You may even dance with them!
Why not live and enjoy the Japanese culture this Summer evening in Tokyo’s Sumida ward? Make a reservation for the “Yukata De Guide Tour” for only 4.500 yens (food included) before 29 July! Our Yes in Japan travel manager will definitely join 🙂
