Art video: Japanese ink wash painting at Toyokuni Atelier (Tokyo)

Watch the cool Get Japan video “Japanese Ink Wash Painting” (59 seconds) to learn about Toyokuni Atelier in Tokyo city then give it a thumb up 🙂 You can see original painted scrolls & postcards of Daruma, cats, dragons, etc. for sale and the artist HONDA Yuta drawing bamboo on paper with a brush during a lesson! If needed, activate the subtitles in English, French…

Our French guide accompanied several travellers to this nice art gallery during 1-day tours to introduce the Japanese culture and sumi-e traditional ink wash painting. Families with children particularly enjoyed the sumi-e activity in English (or in French thanks to the guide)! Think about it when you travel to Asia 🙂

Happy thanks to Yes in Japan: Japanese lunch and “Japanese paintings” shopping

A couple of French-speaking tourists in Tokyo e-mailed our Yes in Japan French manager (always glad to help people in trouble) to thank him for helping them order their lunch at a Japanese restaurant without English menu and without English-speaking staff then recommending Ebisudo Gallery near Jimbocho station (Chiyoda ward, Tokyo) to buy beautiful “Japanese paintings” (ukiyo-e woodblock prints in fact) at a reasonable price. They found the art shop with our Get Japan map of Jimbocho area, loved the gallery and its shopkeeper, and bought 2 ukiyo-e 🙂

“World War 2” tour in Tokyo: Calendar for February 2015

Interested in Japanese history? Learn about World War 2 in Japan thanks to our original walking tour in Tokyo “After the War: Fighters and Civilians” in English or French on 3, 4, 5, 6, 10, 12, 13, 17, 18, 19, 20, 24, 25, 26, or 27 February 2015. We usually gather around 09:30 near Kudanshita station at Hotel Grand Palace (Chiyoda ward).

This interesting tour includes a visit at Yasukuni Shrine and the National Showa Memorial Museum. Why? First, Yasukuni Shrine is one of the most important places related to war in Japan (although foreigners are more likely to think about Hiroshima and Nagasaki); it enshrines 2.466.000 souls of soldiers and ordinary citizens dead for Japan, and features unexpected statues! Second, the National Showa Memorial Museum has excellent exhibitions related to life in Japan around and during World War Two; we recommend you to visit this museum with Yes in Japan staff because explanations are almost only in Japanese language…

Check your calendar and make a reservation 🙂
