In July, August and September 2015, the ink wash painting lessons with sumi-e master HONDA Toyokuni at Toyokuni Atelier Studio (gallery near Jimbocho station, Chiyoda ward, Tokyo) only take place between 13:00 and 17:00. Reserve at least two weeks before your selected day and bring 8.000 yens per person for a lesson of 90 minutes in English or Japanese.
The son HONDA Yuta still teaches sumi-e to foreign beginners without reservation 🙂 Come between 12:00 and 19:00 from Tuesday to Saturday or between 12:00 and 17:00 on Sunday with 1.000 yens per person for a lesson of 30 minutes in English or Japanese.

From Iidabashi station: Walk south-west for 1 minute from the subway exit “A4” or 1 minute from the train exit “East”.
From APA Hotel Tokyo-kudanshita: Exit the lobby, turn left, walk 6 minutes along the main street then go on the opposite side of the block just before the train lines. Spending a night at APA Hotel Tokyo-kudanshita? Ask its staff for our free paper map in English language; we delivered it in early April 2015.
From Tokyo Grand Shrine: Exit the Shinto shrine using the main gate, turn left, walk 1 minute, then follow instructions “From Petit Bonheur” (see the next paragraph).
From Petit Bonheur: Exit the sweets shop/restaurant, turn right, walk 2 minutes down the slope, turn left just before reaching the main street, and walk a few seconds. Coto Language Academy is in the next block on your right side.

Experience painting on Japanese traditional paper Washi! Master Toyokuni teaches sumi-e ink wash painting at all levels in English or Japanese during lessons of 90 minutes at Toyokuni Atelier Studio 🙂 Make a reservation and bring 5.000 yens per person.
As a special offer for foreigners only, his son Yuta teaches sumi-e to beginners in English or Japanese during lessons of 30 minutes. No reservation needed; just bring 1.000 yens per person. You typically draw a simple cat’s face to get used to the brush and black ink then see how to paint a Daruma, bamboo or landscape with mountains and rivers.
